OUR CHURCH HISTORY
The church was the result of the Calvary Presbyterian Church of Wilmington (CPC), California (Presbytery of the Pacific) outreach mission. It began in May 2004 as a bible study led by the elders and leaders of CPC at the house of elder Oliver and Evangeline Mendoza once a month for a year.
In 2005, the Green Valley Presbyterian Church (GVPC) under Rev. Hilda Pecoraro then welcomed the fellowship to have their bible studies in the church. In July 2006, the first full time worker , Pastor Dennis Bartolome, from the CPC arrived.
With the group wanting to meet more often , they requested the Session of the GVPC thru Rev. Dr. Kenneth Harper to permit them to use the fellowship hall of GVPC every Saturday for the bible study and Sunday for the worship. This was granted by the session of the GVPC.
In October of 2007, the first public worship was conducted. By January 2008, Rev Angel de Rosas was called as a temporary pulpit supply to continue the organizing work required. The group was also formally named Green Valley Filipino- American Christian Fellowship. And in August 31, 2008, Pastor Mariano Ordonez was called from the Philippines to be the pastor of the fellowship.
In March 2010, it was recognized as a worshiping fellowship under the PCUSA – Nevada Presbytery and in June of 2010, the fellowship started to use the GVPC sanctuary for the Sunday worship services. The presbytery adopted it as an NCD project in September of 2010.
In October of 2011, it got from the state of Nevada its legal identity with a license as a non-profit ( religious) organization and changed its name to ‘First Filipino-American Presbyterian Church of Southern Nevada” (FFAPC). At the same time, Pastor Nonong Ordonez was commissioned by the Presbytery of Nevada to be the organizing pastor.
In October 23, 2016, it was chartered as a church of the Presbyterian Church USA under the Presbytery of Nevada with Pastor Nonong Ordonez as its pastor supported by 7 elders and 15 deacons which were all installed on that day.
In March 2018, we moved to our new nesting place at Henderson Presbyterian Church challenging members to a new level of faith and service to God.
